The turning phonograph

If you move the phonograph in front of your eyes in a circle the record appears to turn.

This movement of the record has many causes. When we move the picture, the constantly changing light incidence and angle of observation produce in the eye moving dark and bright zones, which apparently move across the record. The eye cannot follow so quickly, and sees normal rotation of the record.
